‘Fruit Ninja’ Movie Release Date, News & Update: Smartphone App Game Follows Angry Birds On Big Screen? 'Kamikaze Love' Writers On Board?

A "Fruit Ninja" movie based on the smartphone app by Halfbrick Studios will follow "Angry Birds" on the big screen. If the "Angry Birds" success is any indication, the "Fruit Ninja" movie should hit a high note especially with Emmy writers J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani onboard for the script.

'Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters,' 'San Andreas' Producer Helming 'Fruit Ninja'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Fruit Ninja" adaptation will have "San Andreas" producer Tripp Vinson to produce. The "Fruit Ninja" movie will be treated as a family- friendly comedy and will stick to the smartphone app premise.

Is A 'Fruit Ninja' Movie Viable?

As Halfbrick Studios designed for smartphone apps, the "Fruit Ninja" movie will see masked warriors battling fruits. Fans of the smartphone app are nonplussed over how "Fruit Ninja" will translate to film.

Tech Radar suggests although "Fruit Ninja" is an entertaining game on smartphone, the concept is slightly more difficult to imagine as a movie than "Angry Birds." However "Angry Birds" actually besting "Captain America: Civil War" in the box office, as pointed out by /FILM, gives the prospect a hopeful sheen.

The Guardian cites that "Fruit Ninja" comes second to "Candy Crush" as the most downloaded apps on iOS. Currently, "Fruit Ninja" boasts over a billion downloads.

'Kamikaze Love' Screenplay Writers Team Up For 'Fruit Ninja' Movie

Release date and casting are still up in the air for the "Fruit Ninja" movie. However, script-wise the "Fruit Ninja" movie seems to be in good hands.

J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani will develop the screenplay for "Fruit Ninja." Although relatively new names to mainstream industry, J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani have much to offer "Fruit Ninja" after their Blacklist lauded "Kamikaze Love" and "How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack" screenplays.

Fans are divided over the so-called invasion of game adaptations such as "Angry Birds" and "Fruit Ninja." However, other viewers are happy to see films as "Angry Birds" and "Fruit Ninja" offer an alternative to the deluge of comic book adaptations.
