Call it as an absurd and inhuman punishment, yet this 13-year-old teenager was chained and shackled in the basement for more than one year. Her stepfather and stepbrother made her live in chains in the basement as a punishment for wetting the bed.
Escaping From Chains
Yahoo reported that the girl was able to escape from her chains after her stepfather and stepbrother went out for a run. Neighbors found her wandering outside the house, apparently in a deplorable condition.
Reports have it that the girl has two other siblings who were living with their stepfather, Timothy Ciboro, and stepbrother, Esten Ciboro. The children's mother left the three of them in their stepfather and stepbrother's care to go to Las Vegas. Whether it was because of work or due to some other reason was not clear.
Mother Left Children
When their mother left, that was the start of the trouble that the girl had to go through. She "wet the bed" which was why her stepfather put handcuffs on her ankles. She was made to sleep in the basement and had to go to the bathroom while chained.
Acting swiftly based on the girl's testimony, police authorities sprang into action and were able to arrest the two Ciboros just as they were attempting to escape with the two other kids in a van. They father and son were held on a $500,000 bail and were facing charges of child endangerment and kidnapping.
Bad Record
According to ABC 13, it is of no surprise that Timothy Ciboro was capable of inflicting a grave punishment for his stepdaughter as he had a not-so-nice record as a Toledo firefighter. He was fired from his job, and according to Chief Luis Santiago, Timothy was "problematic" for them.
While the three kids were not malnourished, it was reported that their hygiene was poor. They are now under foster care. The whereabouts of their mother was not yet confirmed.
