‘Overwatch’ Release Date, News And Update: What You Need To Know About The Highly Anticipated Game

After two decades since "World of Warcraft" (WoW) was released, game developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment launched another game they hope would dominate the electronic game. The highly anticipated "Overwatch" was finally launched on Tuesday, giving players a first-person perspective where they can look directly down the barrel of their weapons as they battle other gamers.

What Is 'Overwatch?'

Paul Miller from The Verge explained how "Overwatch" is designed to be played. You generally pick from a list of characters, which possess varying super powers. In the event that you get shot by the opposing team as you leave the base, you can actually regenerate, even into a different character if you want. When you manage to kill the other team and make it to the car, you have to stay alive while standing next to the car until it moves forward slowly. You win if the car gets to the end of the level before the time runs out.

'Overwatch' To Dominate E-Games

BBC said that WoW is the second best-selling PC of all time, however, its subscribers have also dwindled since it reached its peak in 2010. Blizzard expects strong sales from "Overwatch", eventually earning a lot of attraction as an e-sport.

"Blizzard has a huge following on a global basis and is one of the [best-renowned] publishers," said Piers Harding-Rolls, head of games at the IHS Technology consultancy. "But it has no pedigree in first-person shooters (FPS)," he added. This builds the excitement as players try to guess what "Overwatch" could offer them.

"Overwatch" will be Blizzard's biggest launch since Diable 3 in 2012 according to Thomas Tippl, chief operating officer at Activision Blizzard. Unlike WoW, there will be no subscription fee to play "Overwatch" but there will be in-game purchases like Loot Boxes that can be used to customize characters.
