This 19-Year-Old Mom Gave Birth To The World's Biggest Baby Weighing 15 Pounds

A 19-year-old new mother from India has given birth to a baby girl who weighs at least 15 pounds. It is believed that the newborn is the current world's biggest baby, who came to the world via cesarean section.

The mom, Nandini, and her baby girl are doing fine at the hospital. But the health workers were definitely surprised by the birth. A 15-pound infant is almost as big and heavy as a six-month-old baby. Typically, newborns weigh at least seven pounds. "In my 25 years of experience, I had never seen such a big baby," said Dr. Vanketesh Raju, a hospital official, per Telegraph.

Nandini's whole pregnancy was not a difficult one as confirmed by her gynecologist, Dr. Poornima Manu. The actual birth also didn't reveal problems or health issues, but the surgeons did take their time to ensure the safety of the delivery since they are dealing with an unusually heavy baby.

Manu also confirmed that the new mom's sugar levels remained normal throughout her term. Her regular pregnancy check-ups revealed she didn't develop thyroid problems or gestational diabetes. Daily Mail reports that Nandini weighs at least 207 pounds (94 kilograms) and is 5'9" tall, suggesting that this could be genetics.

In 2014, Massachusetts resident Carisa Rusack gave birth to a baby girl who weighed 14.5 pounds and measured 22 inches long per My San Antonio Mommy Files. Rusack was told by her doctors that she's carrying a big baby in her womb, but she was still surprised to learn the actual weight of her little bundle during birth.

But the world-record holder for the heaviest baby was a boy born in Italy in 1955. His mother, Carmelina Fedele, also didn't have any health issues during the pregnancy and when he came out, he weighed 22.8 pounds, per Guinness World Records.
