The world No.1 defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6 6-4 6-1 7-5 to move into the quarterfinals to face Roland Garros. Djokovic's motivation to head to the French Open was definitely to win the grand slam, which is a difficult yet achievable feat for the tennis player, as reported by CNN.
The Djokovic-Bautista match intensified as the rain returned on Wednesday. But Djokovic got the upper against Bautista before organizers put the match to a stop.Most likely, the bad weather gave him more boosts to lead. Organizers might soon be forced to push the men's final to Monday if the rains don't relent.
He told reporters they were definitely on the edge because of the weather condition. "It was a great mental test for all of us yesterday the entire day," he added. "I'm in a way glad to have a match like this because it's a challenge that you need to overcome mentally mostly."
The Spaniard tennis player moved a break at 4-2, threatening to take it to fifth set. But world number one quickly got back on track, winning five games consecutively of the six games securing his victory.
The match started just after midday on Tuesday, which was already a day late, completing it at 1.47pm the next day. It took three hours and twelve minutes in total before Djokovic sees off Bautista Agut.
Djokovic is through to a 28th consecutive grand slam quarter-final, putting him clear in second place just right behind Roger Federer, whose current record stands at 36, updates Eurosport. But of course, he's on a huge triumph in getting $100M. Congratulations to the world number one!
