A third grader at Powers-Ginsburg Elementary School was reportedly told by the principal and other school officials to take off his cap that showed support for Donald Trump after his schoolmates confronted him over the item.
The third grader was identified as Logan Autry and he said in a statement that he loves the presumptive GOP nominee for the Presidential elections this November. Autry wore a red hat that had the slogan "Make America Great Again" along with the signature of the real estate mogul.
Autry added, "It's my favorite hat. The First Amendment says I can wear my hat." Autry noted that his schoolmates were saying they did not like Trump and that they regarded the candidate as stupid. The student then tried to explain what Trump "was actually doing" but the confrontation was causing a commotion, NBC Bay Area reported.
School officials from the Fresno, California-based school then had to jump in and ask the child to remove his cap in order to keep everyone safe. As per the district rules, students could wear hats outside of the classroom but they have to take it off once it creates a distraction.
Autry continued to reveal that the principal told him to take off his cap but he still did not comply. He noted that the principal said it was against the dress code to wear the hat but he looked at the rules and there was nothing saying the cap was not allowed to be worn.
The Fresno Unified School District released a statement regarding the matter. They said that they were responsible for providing a safe learning environment and that it is their responsibility to take precautions when the discourse begins to impact the school climate and interrupt school operations.
No other actions were made regarding the matter. None of the students involved were suspended.
Autry, on the other hand, was able to meet Trump after his story went public.
