'Criminal Minds' Season 12 News & Update: New Season To Pick Up Where Season 11 Left Off; Crossover With Spinoff Possible

"Criminal Minds" is one of the popular TV series on the small screens. The show has struggled with a lot of challenges last season, among it is losing one of its BAU agents after Shemar Moore decided to leave the series. However, the show must go on as the "Criminal Minds" is renewed for its 12th season. According to reports, it will pick up where it left off in the last season.

'Criminal Minds' Season 12 Will Continue Where It Left Off In The Last Season

"Criminal Minds" Season 11 ended with a cliffhanger. What fans expected to be a calm dinner turned to be a disaster when Rossi (Joe Mantegna) was cut while three inmates were bolted from the cell. Peter Lewis escaped along with other certified killers that will surely spread their wrath and evilness outside, per the Bitbag. Thus, it is likely that "Criminal Minds" Season 12 will just pick up where the last season left off.

Parent Herald previously reported that "Criminal Minds" showrunner Erica Messer is still considering who among the UnSubs will return in "Criminal Minds" Season 12. However, Mr. Scratch's return is already confirmed.

Since there will probably be a number of UnSubs in "Criminal Minds" and the BAU team is down with one man after Derek Morgan chose to be a family man, Erica Messer will be bringing a new character to fill the absence that Shemar Moore left on the show.

"We don't want a shrinking cast. We want to have people in the field. Given that we have to go out and catch criminals of the week and these serial killers out there, it feels like we can't be an agent down this year," Messer told TV Guide about adding a new cast to replace Shemar Moore.

'Criminal Minds' Season 12 Crossover With Spinoff Possible.

Meanwhile, the success of "Criminal Minds" enable the series to spawn a spinoff titled, "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders." "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" also airs on CBS. In fact, there are rumors that it is one of the reasons why CBS delayed the renewal of the parent series. The network reportedly observes the ratings of the spinoff to check if they would still need the original "Criminal Minds."

Although both rate well, CBS opted to renew the parent series. Per Master Herald, fans are looking forward to seeing a crossover between the two procedural dramas, "Criminal Minds" and "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders." Per the report, fans will likely to see agent Hotch (Thomas Gibson) and Jack Garett (Gary Sinise) sharing the small screen in the future.

Per the report, doing a crossover is one of the potential solutions to fill the void of losing one of the major characters in the show. It can be remembered that Shemar Moore's exit is a huge loss to "Criminal Minds."
