The fifth season of "House of Cards" won't premiere on Netflix until early 2017, but there's a growing speculation that this will be the season President Frank Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey) dies. The crime will allegedly be committed by someone close to him. A new villain could also join the series next season.
In the last run of "House of Cards," President Frank Underwood was up for re-election and had been going on a campaign trail to guarantee the votes. Along the way, he experienced a dilemma in choosing a viable running mate. Against his wishes, his wife, the First Lady Claire Underwood (played by Robin Wright) was picked for the spot as his vice president.
"House of Cards" Season 5 Spoiler: Franks Murderer
Speculations are that the Underwoods will actually win their posts in "House of Cards" Season 5, but Frank won't last long because he will be murdered. His wife, the vice-president, will have something to do with it.
With their marriage no longer existing long before the elections and with Claire showing early on that she wants the power and will do anything to get it at all cost, this theory has been growing popular among fans. When showrunner Beau Willimon announced he won't be part of Season 5 anymore, there were suggestions that the show will undergo some changes, including killing off its lead characters.
However, Kevin Spacey said that even with Willimon gone, "House of Cards" will retain the same writing team who will follow through on their former showrunner's vision. "Much has already been put on the table, lots of interesting idea," the actor told Independent in April. At this point, the writers are busy polishing up the script to "House of Cards" Season 5 with filming scheduled to begin, "soon enough," confirmed Spacey.
"House of Cards" Season 5: New Big Bad
Aside from the rumored death of Frank Underwood in "House of Cards" Season 5, there are also speculations that a more vile character is going to be introduced. He or she will be written to make life harder for the already vulnerable Underwoods.
The Hollywood Reporter cites Sigourney Weaver as one potential choice to play the part, whose character could be up against Robin Wright's Claire for the vice presidency. However, Reddit members suggest someone like Anthony Hopkins could be a better big bad. He could expose all of the illegal activities that the Underwoods have done, especially Frank, to keep their hold of the White House.
"House of Cards" is expected to return for Season 5 on Netflix around March or April. The streaming site has yet to make the announcements of its full season release date.
