'Supergirl' Season 2 Will See Superman as an Actual Character; Fans Want Tom Welling to Make Return

Supergirl Season 2 will reportedly see Superman, the cousin of the leading character on The CW series, as an actual character making an appearance for the next installment of the show and Tom Welling is being expected by fans to play the role of the superhero.

According to reports, Superman will be seen in the new season after he was referenced multiple times in the first installment and there were glimpses of the Man of Steel. He will be seen in person in the first two episodes of the upcoming season of the former CBS show. It remains unclear if he will still be seen in the future episodes of Supergirl.

The executive producer of the show, Andrew Kreisberg, made the announcement saying that he, Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, his fellow executive producers, are "beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl." They added that they cannot wait to see who will be donning the red cape.

Accordingly, Superman was intentionally not shown in the first season of Supergirl as they did not want to keep the spotlight away from Kara.

No specific actor has been named to play the cousin of Kara, played by Melissa Benoist, many are asking Welling to take on the role. Welling played the role of Superman on the hit TV series Smallville. Superman was also recently played by Henry Cavill on the big screen.

Hollywood Life reported that after the announcement was made, many fans are pitching the name of Welling to take on the role. One fan took to Twitter to say, "Superman coming to #Supergirl Season 2. Time for some Justice...get Tom Welling suited up." Another wrote, "Someone free Tom Welling's schedule and get him on the show. NOW."

Welling did talk about probably making a crossover with Supergirl but he said he was not sure it would make any sense. He pointed out that he felt Supergirl should have their own Clark Kent as they have their own Supergirl. Welling also said that he thinks the new show is more modern as compared to Smallville.
