A man that was arrested last week in Ohio will be extradited from the state in order to face the charges against him regarding the killing of a 13-year-old Detroit boy.
According to The Washington Post, the man was identified as Gregory Walker and he was arrested last Thursday in Toledo, Ohio. He was since held on a probation violation. Detroit Police Officer Dan Donakowski said in a statement that Walker will be sent back to Detroit by Tuesday this week.
The body of the 13-year-old boy, identified as Deontae Mitchell, was found last week also on Thursday. He was missing for days before his body was found in an empty lot on the city's east side. An autopsy was carried out last Friday by the Wayne County medical examiner's office.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig released a statement regarding the crime saying that the victim was a "defenseless child" and that the suspect is "an adult male with a gun." He added, "Once again, another coward preying on children, and that needs to stop."
Mitchell went missing earlier last week while he was out with his cousin. They were then riding a bike. The cousin of Mitchell pointed out that the boy picked up the money that was dropped by a man who was urinating outside a market in the area. The man is said to be intoxicated.
A surveillance video was released by police officials and it was seen that Mitchell was pursued by the suspect, who was inside a black Chevrolet Imapala. Another surveillance video showed that the suspect grabbed by the boy by the arm and forced him to go inside the aforementioned vehicle. The suspect was also seen holding a nickel-plated revolver.
No charges against Walker have been filed yet. Other persons of interest were arrested last week by officials who are said to be a 30-year-old man from Detroit and a 51-year-old man. It remains unclear if the two other men are still in custody or have been released.
The investigation is ongoing. No motive for the killing has been released.
