A 78-year-old elderly man from Southwest Philadelphia was killed last week and the suspect being searched by police officials surrendered resulting to an arrest.
The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Quintis Clark. He turned himself in at a police headquarters on Monday hours after his mugshot was released and was said to be wanted.
CBS Philly reported that police officials responded to the 6300 block of Theodore Street after the son of the victim contacted authorities when he did not hear from his father for days.
They found a broken window and an unlocked door at the home of the elderly man, identified as Joseph Daly, a Navy veteran. Upon entering the property, they found the homeowner unconscious and unresponsive on the living room floor. A pool of blood was also discovered next to the man's head. It was not clear how the victim sustained his wound on his head. The cause of his death is yet to be determined.
Upon further investigation, the vehicle of the victim was found out to be missing. It was discovered two days after at Griscom and Oxford Avenue. Seven days later, the arrest warrant was obtained by officials for Clark. He has been charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, robbery, burglary, theft and other related offenses.
Officials also revealed that Clark strangled and beat Daly to death before stealing his vehicle, which is a Ford E150 van. Officials did not disclose if there was any other item or amount of money missing from the break-in. It was not revealed if Clark had weapons on him during the attack and there was no motive for the killing yet.
Police believe that Clark was caught by Daly and the latter fought back resulting in his death. They also said that Clark tried to rob Daly days before the killing took place.
Initially, the City of Philadelphia offered a $20,000 reward for anyone who would provide a tip that will lead to an arrest and a conviction of the murderer. People were urged to call the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or 3335.
