With the belief that homosexuality is a sin and an abnormality, parents from Texas have allegedly forced their 17-year-old gay daughter to undergo a bible-based therapy at a Christian boarding facility to recover from her disease. The gay teen's extended family members and close friends are now raising funds for the legal fees in an attempt to free her.
Bible-Based Therapy To Recover From Homosexuality
According to Joey Jordan, the gay teen's cousin who put up the GoFundMe page called "Save Sarah," Sarah was forced by her parents to stay in a Christian boarding facility for troubled teens in East Texas after she brought her girlfriend to her prom. The gay teen, who is an honor student and a member of her school's debate team, is set to stay at the facility for a year, where phone calls, computer communications and visitors are not allowed.
The GoFundMe page alleged that Sarah's parents believed that homosexuality is a sin and an abnormality, which is why they are forcing the gay teen to undergo bible-based therapy to "pray away the gay" and recover from the disease. Sarah was said to be totally against of the therapy and has even attempted to escape from the Christian boarding facility.
Sarah's extended family members and close friends put up the GoFundMe page to accumulate money needed for the attorney's fees in an attempt to free her. "This is about more than just one gay kid - if we free Sarah we can help show that it's not okay to try to make gay teens straight by sending them away and using the threat of God against them," the page stated.
As of press time, the GoFundMe page has already accumulated almost $65,000, which is close to its goal of raising $100,000. The page has also updated that extended family members and close friends of Sarah have received unconfirmed reports that the gay teen was already released from the Christian boarding facility.
Is It Right For Parents To Force Gay Children To Undergo Bible-Based Therapy?
Sarah's GoFundMe page has received overflowing support from people who believed that homosexuality is not a disease. But Patrick Von Dohlen, president of the nonprofit San Antonio Family Association, told KHOU that Sarah's parents have the right to send her to the facility and undergo bible-based therapy.
"It's for their own protection and good. In this case, it's natural for her to like boys. It's not natural for her to like girls," Von Dohlen asserted.
