LGBT In School Curriculum: Controversy Persists On Inclusion In Educational Framework

Transgender inclusion in the educational framework is a persisting controversy not just on school grounds but also in the school curriculum. Transgender proponents point out that the school curriculum should be revised to include LGBT elements in educational instruction.

NBC News purports that exclusion of transgender education in schools make for incomplete and inaccurate learning. "Without support, many LGBT youth leave home and school when staying is no longer tolerable; tragically, many take their own lives when they believe they will never be accepted for who they are and how they express themselves," the media outlet stated.

According to NBC News, exclusion of transgender information in educational institutions indicate a failure of public schools toward school children. True learning, based on claim, is hindered by transgender education exclusion from educational curriculum.

Breitbart, on the other hand, cites revised health and physical education standards in Washington which push gender fluidity in the K to 12 educational curricula. According to the revised health and physical education standards, children should be taught from kindergarten onward about the dynamics of, and respect for, gender fluidity as exemplified among transgenders.

As early as kindergarten, children should be immersed - so to speak - in the understanding that gender is more about expression and the many ways by which it is expressed. Core conventions of learning are replaced by revised ideas involving self-identity.

Based on the revised standards, science and biology play secondary to the role of identifying gender. Washington's health and physical education standards more or less define gender as simply a social idea or notion based on emotions, behavior and culturally determined characteristics, which people associate with a biological sex.

Citing Breitbart, Washington's health and physical education standards make the assumption that regardless of biology, a good number of boys will identify themselves as females and a good number of girls will identify themselves as males. Breitbart points out that the standards contradict conventions, which have been proven by science, statistics and experience.
