News broke out that schools will eventually consider teaching gender spectrum and fluidity. Though it may be hard for young children to fully grasp the concept of gender fluidity, the educational institution is still considering the fact of educating children about sexual fluidity.
According to Beribart, the Washington State will push for the implementation of gender fluidity on the K-12 curriculum. The standards would be labelled as the "core idea" wherein it would have sub topics including "self-identity" and other topics that needs to be touched which focuses on gender which is influenced by emotional, behavioral, and cultural characteristics based on the individual's biological sex.
Gender identity is a broad topic as there are several factors that need to be considered. Gender identity is often understood that a male body should exclusively belong to boys, while the female body should exclusively belong to girls.
As for the new standards for the K-12 curriculum however, it was mentioned that the standards will break the norms as they had it redefined. The rules in Washington will focus on the implementation that boys can see themselves as girls, while girls can openly see their selves as boys. It was mentioned that children should be given the freedom to declare that their biology and feeling towards which gender they belong to doesn't match.
In the new standard's definition, it was mentioned that the individual's gender should be labelled depending who s/he feels like. As for their gender expression on the other hand, the individual can openly express their gender may it be consciously or not.
Though Washington's gender fluid and transgender ideas deemed acceptable to some parents, Fox reported that some parents are highly against the thought. In Fairfax county Public Schools, parents were furious over the implementation of adding the gender fluidity spectrum in their K-12 curriculum.
"Students will be provided definitions for sexual orientation terms heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality; and the gender identity term transgender," as mentioned in the district's recommendations. "Emphasis will be placed on recognizing that everyone is experiencing changes and the role of respectful, inclusive language in promoting an environment free of bias and discrimination."
