Belgian Man Seeks Euthanasia Because He Cannot Accept His Homosexuality

The world is now seemingly more progressive and more accepting of people who identify themselves as homosexuals. In spite of this, there are still those who still think that this is a problem and there are some who cannot accept their sexuality.

This is the case of a man from Belgium, who has only been identified as Sebastien. He is reportedly seeking for assisted suicide or euthanasia because he cannot accept his homosexuality. The radical new laws in Belgium grants euthanasia as a right to its citizens who are currently undergoing severe physical and/or emotional distress.

Reports from the Telegraph state that Sebastien feels as if he is a "prisoner in [his] own body" and despite over 17 years of therapy he has yet to come to terms with his homosexuality. He was also reportedly raised in a strictly Roman Catholic household. Now, he is prepared to die because he can no longer cope with the emotional pressure that comes with this.

Sebastien said that he was attracted to boys that were much younger than he is. When he was asked if there was a chance that he would change his mind about the request. His reply was, "If someone could give me some kind of miracle cure, why not? But for now, I really don't believe it anymore. And I'm too exhausted also, whatever may be out there."

To have a request for assisted suicide be approved in Belgium, at least three doctors must sign off on the request, says an article from Metro. Sebastien's case is fairly similar to that of 44-year Nathan Verhelst, who requested euthanasia after a botched sex change operation. Another notable case is of deaf twins Marc and Eddy Verbessem who were granted their request after they argued that they were going blind as well.
