It has only been a few years since the release of the current generation consoles from video game industry heavyweights Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. However, if rumors are to be believed, the new wave of consoles from these companies will already come out some time next year.
According to reports, Nintendo will release its next console first in Spring 2017, bashing old rumors about a late 2016 release. Sony has also come out with a statement saying that their PS4 Neo will not be featured at this year's E3, which sends a large implication that its release date will be later than what was previously rumored, Fall 2017.
Nintendo pushed back the release of the NX to add virtual reality capabilities, according to PC Advisor. It is also rumored to make use of old school cartridges instead of the now seemingly industry standard optical discs. Nintendo's NX console is said to be as powerful as the PS4, but what Microsoft and Sony have in store are reportedly 2 to 4 times more powerful than what is currently in store.
Reports from Forbes also say that while Microsoft will most probably be releasing its new console next year, they will not tease it nor create any speculation around it in the near future. If all next generation consoles are released in 2017, then it will be the first time that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft will release their consoles in the same calendar year.
The major differences between these releases are that only the NX from Nintendo will be a replacement for what the company currently offers, the Wii U. The Neo from Sony and the arguably weirdly named Scorpio from Microsoft will be much more powerful than the current generation offerings, but they are not aiming to be replacements to the PS4 and Xbox One respectively.
