Toby Jones Joins 'Sherlock' Season 4
Parent Herald previously reported that the "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" star Toby Jones is set to join "Sherlock" season 4. "Sherlock" creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat were so delighted to welcome Jones on board that they even cast him to play one of the series' finest villains.
"Delighted to have Toby Jones on board, bringing to life one of Arthur Conan Doyle's finest villains," Moffat told BBC. "We're thrilled to welcome one of our finest actors to the Sherlock family. I know Toby will embrace the part with true relish!" Gatiss added.
Jones To Play As Culverton Smith In 'Sherlock' Season 4
Per Cultbox, Jones will be playing the role of Culverton Smith, a character who first appeared in "The Adventure of the Dying Detective" in 1913. Ruther confirmed this casting in a tweet.
Per Mobile & Apps, Doyle described Culverton Smith as "small, frail, twisted." Aside from this, the character has a double chin, high bald head and menacing grey eyes, which seems to perfectly fit Toby Jones' physique.
Benedict Cumberbatch Wiling To Age With The "Sherlock" Series
Meanwhile, the "Doctor Strange" star Benedict Cumberbatch expresses his interest in playing the character as he ages. He is willing to play the character as long as he can.
"Pretty determined. I'm still enjoying it. We'll see how the next series goes, but I'd love to keep aging with him," Cumberbatch said about making for "Sherlock." The "Sherlock" Season 4 lead star also shared that the people he considers as icon appreciates the show, including Meryl Streep.
"The gob-smacking thing about it is that people who have been icons to me forever have been coming up to me to say much they adore [the show]," Cumberbatch said per Mobile & App. "When Meryl Streep told me, 'I love Sherlock, I thought, 'That's so wrong!'"
