'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8: Alaric and Caroline? Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder To Go Beyond S8?

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will not necessarily be the end of The CW series and could take Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert and Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore into a longer journey. On the other side of the chaos wreaked by the Nameless Evil through Damon and Enzo St John (Michael Malarkey), Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis) may get what he wants in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 and it might not be Caroline Forbes (Candice King).

While fans have been readying to say goodbye to Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) after "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, TV By The Numbers reports that The CW made an announcement that would make Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder fans ecstatic. "No decision has been made one way or the other [as to] whether this is the final season," The CW president Mark Pedowitz said of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

What Mark Pedowitz, who himself want to see "TVD" go on, highlighted is that fan support for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will determine the continuation of the series. If "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 does prove successful, fans will see Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder moving Elena Gilbert (or Katherine Pierce as some posit) and Damon Salvatore into S9 and even further.

Initially, fans panicked when Ian Somerhalder seemed to have said Damon Salvatore is saying goodbye in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. However, TV Guide cites happy clarification by Ian Somerhalder himself that his tenure as Damon Salvatore depends on how "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 goes.

Alaric Saltzman fans may feel uncomfortable over the state of things where Caroline Forbes and Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) are concerned. Entertainment Weekly cites producer Julie Plec in pointing to an Alaric moment in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 that dwelt on what Alaric wants deep in his heart.

According to Julie Plec, she is fully supportive of Alaric getting what he wants, which portends well for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Alaric may find happiness in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, but it might not be with Caroline Forbes.

Needless to say, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will reunite Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Kat Graham, Paul Wesley, Michael Malarkey, Matthew Davis and Candice King. The CW has yet to announce the firm premiere date for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.
