It's been more than a decade since the fabled Cartoon Network warrior-inspired series "Samurai Jack" graced TV screens, however, a much-awaited return has been announced by the show's creator recently. The show's comeback this 2016 though, comes with a not-so-nice price: it would also be Jack's last.
Audiences were treated to a sneak peek at the Annecy Animation Festival held in France, which kicked off last June 13, LazyGamer reported. "Samurai Jack" would still be a samurai-wielding warrior, yet his TV return would be part of a 5-hour movie and not more than just an episode.
The show would feature taking place fifty years post-season 4, with "Samurai Jack's" long-time nemesis Aku supposedly ousted by a rebellion who had enough of his oppression and evil rule. Another surprise: the beloved samurai would also be older-looking and sporting a crown on his head, and fans are truly eager to find out what really happened then and now.
In a very short preview of the return of "Samurai Jack" shown in a YouTube video (courtesy of Adult Swim) and related previews, Genndy Tartakovsky would be slated as the new season's executive producer for the comeback, ScreenRant reported. While fans are excited to listen to Phil Lamarr's voice skills as "Samurai Jack", the role of Aku may be going to another charismatically evil persona as Mako Iwamatsu passed away two years after the show's last season.
Tartakovsky, not wanting to be dissuaded with Iwamatsu's passing for the highly-anticipated "Samurai Jack" revival, said that he really wants to bring Jack's story to a close. "I feel like people are still kind of interested in it, and it's nice that after all these years, people are still responding to it, like two generations down almost from it being on the air for the first time," continued Tartakovsky.
