Recent update on the 5-year-old Colorado boy's condition following serious injuries sustained from a mountain lion attack as told by his mother says the child's condition is 'improving'. A few days ago the child had been attacked by the wild animal in front of his Woody Creek home, according to Aspen Daily News.
His mother came to his aid after hearing the child's screams for help, despite placing her own life in danger as well. The 5-year-old Colorado boy had apparently sustained various neck and facial injuries prior to his mother physically prying the young cougar's jaws open to save her son. Although the boy's mother also got injuries of her own, she didn't hesitate to place her son's life as top priority during the rescue.
The family's statement told of their gratitude for both the Colorado boy and mother's welfare. It also said of the boy's continued recovery and wishes for everyone to respect their privacy as of the moment.
Meanwhile, a Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman said that the mountain lion that attacked the Colorado boy had been put down, together with another young cougar. Both cougars, about 40 pounds each, were between 7 to 9 months young.
The Colorado boy's father had placed a distress call to 911 after he got wind of the mountain lion attack on his son, and quickly rushed to the Aspen Valley Hospital. The child was then transferred to Denver Children's Hospital and reported to be in fair condition.
Fox News also reported that although attack on humans by mountain lions maybe rare, the recent attack on the Colorado boy was considered the most serious seen in the area. The two mountain lions who were euthanized by wildlife authorities after the attack were said to have possibly been orphaned earlier by its mother, that could have guided these cougars to avoid human contact.
