Unless it's an immaculate conception, a woman can't conceive a baby without a man. This is what makes a husband's health pre-pregnancy so important! If you're a husband and dad wannabe who's aiming to get your wife pregnant, you have to take care of your health too.
Huffington Post lists 6 ways on how you can become a dad-to-be in no time. It also emphasizes the importance of monitoring one's health during and after the pregnancy of your wife.
1. Visit The Doctor Regularly.
Huffington Post recommends consulting with your doctor to let him/her know about you and your wife's decision to have a baby. Your doctor would help you know if your current lifestyle adheres with your dream of becoming a dad and if you're taking substances such as medicine that might lessen you and your wife's chances to make her pregnant.
2. Exercise.
It's important to remain active, Huffington Post emphasizes. If you're going to exercise, make it a habit, not just a fad you want to get into. Exercising helps you deal with stress such as make you sleep better, lower your stress level and create "overall healthy patterns" for the dad that you are going to be. Even just allotting 15 minutes for exercise two times a week is enough to keep your health in check for your wife's future pregnancy.
3. Monitor Your Diet.
What you eat becomes you. Huffington Post says that the food you take has unavoidable effects on sperm quality. If you plan to be your own dad nutritionist, take note that foods high in zinc (ex. meat, seafood and eggs) could increase your sperm's ability to fertilize an egg and Vitamin E-rich foods (ex. sunflower seeds or almonds) will help strengthen your semen quality. Nonetheless, you can ask a dietician to make a diet/meal plan for you that will be in accordance to your goal of making you're wife pregnant.
4. Limit Alcohol Intake.
If you're really serious in making your wife pregnant, Huffington Post tells you to cut down on alcohol. Don't drink more than enough because alcohol can alter the zinc level of your body and can affect your sperm in all the wrong ways: reduce your body's production of sperm and abnormalize your sperm.
5. Don't use gadgets that often.
Electromagnetic radiation from wireless communication can negatively affect your reproductive health. When your laptop becomes hot after using it for hours, it can damage your semen according to Huffington Post. So if you want to increase your ability to conceive to make your wife pregnant, resist the urge to use gadgets.
6. Stay Away From Toxic Chemicals.
What can damage your fertility is exposure to toxin such as pesticides, chemical fertilizers, lead nickel, mercury, chromium and benzene. If your work involves exposure to these harmful substances, wear a face mask and protective clothing. Be wary of everything you buy and use.
After becoming the healthy you and making your wife pregnant, What To Expect says that according to research, expectant women have a better pregnancy experience when dads share their load. Women experience hormonal changes so always be sensitive to her needs, listen to her rants and talk a bit too. Make sure you're informed about pregnancy in general and her pregnancy in detail. Go with her to the doctor, help her with household chores and prepare both of your stuff that you'll need in the hospital when the baby's about to come out.
When the baby is finally in your arms, make sure dad's presence is felt, according to Code Name Mama. When your wife needs to free her hands, offer to hold your baby. Walk around cuddling your baby or strapping him/her to a stroller so that she can stare at the world he/she will live in. Talk to him/her and whisper in his/her ears that you will just always be there. Make your baby listen to music while you change his/her diaper. Massage your baby's hands and feet and give him/her gentle kisses.
It's exciting to be a dad, especially if it's your first time. Enjoy the experience with your wife and be the parent your newborn deserves.
