"Days Of Our Lives" may have bode well in some areas but the series is facing bad returns in the small screens of Africa. Talks of the spinoff airing cancelled and impeded in South African shores have just been confirmed. Also, many are wondering on who gets the blame for the ending of the much-acclaimed series.
The cancellation of "Days Of Our Lives" would surely impact the South African viewers, those that have grown to love the soap series for its storyline and thrills. However, despite the negativity, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is still determined to proceed with their plan, reports EWN.
The series that have weathered the rising competition of shows and series, made it irrefutable that "Days Of Our Lives" is one among the many epic soaps of all time. With the drama ending in Cape Town, the local shows would have more airtime. The broadcasting segments spearheaded the move so that there would be a 90 percent airtime for the local content quota.
Although there have been affirmations for the move, it is still viewers discretion to flip on any channels and see if the "Days Of Our Lives" would be aired in privately owned satellite channels. Given the success of the American shows, it has pushed local segments to counter the heavy flow of foreign shows and among the affected segments is the drama franchise.
To prove the latter, Quartz reports that the American imports such as "Dallas," "All My Children" and "Days Of Our Lives" has stirred local producers to invest on South African penchant for drama, and make their mark in the drama industry.
It remains unsettled on how fans and viewers would react to the national mandate to end the airing of "Days Of Our Lives." However, viewers discretion is not the culprit that led to the rising events but the decision of the broadcasters to promote their local dramas and soaps.
