A video of a group of 11-year-old boys is going viral and it has been generating a positive response from netizens. It shows how the boys allowed their friend and schoolmate with Down syndrome to win the race during a sports event. The incident happened in Lincolnshire in the U.K.
The Sun reports that the boys are sixth grade students of the Wrawby St Mary's C of E Primary School, and they were holding their final day of sports. But as they prepared to run in the race, they agreed to let one boy, Rory, win it.
Instead of actually competing against each other, the boys decided to lock and link their arms together, leaving their friend with Down syndrome to sprint faster at the finish line. Spectators couldn't believe what they were seeing and they cheered the boys for what they did.
Something Good For Rory
Mom Michelle Drury told the media that her son, Rio, and his classmates thought of doing this without any prodding from the adults. According to 9News, since the boys will be attending different schools by September, they wanted to give Rory something good to remember his time at the elementary school.
Head teacher, Mariclare Potterton, said that the boys asked permission before the race and before executing their plan for Rory. "They had obviously been discussing beforehand," said Potterton, via Daily Mail.
Kids Were Always Kind To Rory
Potterton was one of those touched by the boys' gesture. Drury said that a lot of the parents were actually crying happy tears after what they've witnessed in the race.
The kids at the Wrawby School, who have known each other since they were little boys, have always treated Rory with kindness. The teachers describe him as a sporty kid despite his condition. He's going to receive a medal for finishing the race first.
