Playing Barney to scare her friends at a sleepover party backfired on a 15-year old teenager in Alabama. The Barney costume head got stuck on her, and local firefighters had to intervene to take it off.
The Washington Post reported that Darby Risner put on the purple Barney head which she had found on the floor of her friend's house where they were having a sleepover. Risner waited for her friends to come down the stairs and find her. "I didn't scare them at all," Risner said, saying her friends merely laughed at her attempt to scare them.
Teenager Gets Stuck After Barney Prank
However, the Barney head got stuck on Risner. A report from CBS News said that the Barney head had slipped down Risner's shoulders and she had difficulty in moving around.
"It was hard to take her seriously as she was flailing her arms around. We laughed the entire time," Amy Self said in an interview with CBS affiliate WIAT-TV. "It never got too scary because we knew that she would eventually get out. There are airholes, so we knew she was in no real danger." Self was the one who owned the house and the mother of one of Risner's friends.
Teenager Rescued From Barney Head
After failed attempts to get the Barney head of Risner, the firefighters were called. However, the firefighters said that if they responded to the home, they would have to use their blaring sirens. Risner was instead brought to the fire station to seek help.
Fox News reported that the Barney head was stuck so tight on Risner's small frame that they could not get it off her during the beginning. When they tried pulling it off, Risner was pulled off the ground too. Eventually, the firefighters made cuts to the back of the Barney head and were able to get if off Risner.
