Is Your Child Learning From the Best Preschool Teachers that are Equipped to Teach? Research Said No

Research reveal that preschoolers are not getting the quality education that their parents are paying for. It was mentioned that most preschool teachers lack proper training and teaching background, yet they are being sent out to teach in schools.

A study published in the The National Council on Teacher Quality, it was mentioned that the preschool teachers being sent to educate young children are poorly trained.

"There's a lot of attention to expanding access [to preschool], "president of the National Council on Teacher Quality, Kate Walsh said. "But there's insufficient attention to the quality of the programs."

As a result of their study involving 100 training programs, it was revealed that the aspiring preschool teachers were no thoroughly equipped to take on the job. The study focused five of the associate's degree programs, 54 bachelor's program and 41 master's degree and graduate programs.

It was then revealed that the programs didn't dig deeper when it comes to early childhood education. It was more focused on specific skills which caters early childhood education and teaching. It is also focused on building the child's learning development which includes English and mathematical skills.

The researchers then noted that around 40 percent of the training programs does not require preschool teaching courses, and 20 percent does not allow hands on teaching. It was then highlighted that the preschool teachers lack the needed training thus not giving preschoolers the quality education that their parents are paying for.

"The training provided to aspiring preschool teachers is very, very uneven," the researchers said. "Meaning no matter how much we invest in preschool, we will get mixed, often disappointing results."

Huffington Post then added that only 29 percent of 4 year old children are getting the proper preschool education at a low rate in the SY 2014-2015. These children were the ones that were able to enroll in a state funded preschool program.
