The remarkable story of how a forgetful young fish learns to survive in the vast open ocean, is told by Disney Pixar in "Finding Dory". The movie gives viewers an honest look into the environment of children with special needs. Even just during the first few minutes of the movie, there's already the impression that the movie would surely melt your heart.
"Finding Dory" features how the main character can be likened to that of an individual with special needs, whether it is a child or an adult in real life. According to The ARTery, Director Andrew Stanton said that the studio had chosen to show Dory's story in a not-stereotypical manner, however, easily relatable to children with special needs.
That said, it is understandably clear enough in "Finding Dory" that it depicts the facets of a challenged individual. As Dory discovers her origins through visible flashbacks in her head, viewers are guided on how children with special needs long to be dealt with an open mind and that much needed acceptance.
Lindsey Collins, the producer of "Finding Dory" also said that the movie is filled with characters who deal with their own challenges. Also, the subtlety of the movie theme is what makes it comically special.
As a "sensory movie" experience, "Finding Dory" is a delight for children with special needs: to go out and have a nice time. Greenwood Premiere Cinema can attest to that, in a related Fox6 Now post.
Inspired by a friend who has a son with autism, cinema director Jessica Baker said that the "Finding Dory" experience allows families to take their children with special needs to a regular movie, without getting anxious over other moviegoers' reactions. As such with "Finding Dory", she added that their families can bring their children without feeling uncomfortable or worrying about them, and feel welcomed at the same time.
