PlayStation 4 Neo to be Released in Fall 2016; Microsoft "Project Scorpio" to be Released in 2017

Even though it has been weeks after the 2016 edition of the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 has concluded, there has still been a lot of news articles circulating regarding the latest console offerings from both Microsoft and Sony. It is now believed that the PlayStation 4 Neo is set to be released in the fall of this year, while Microsoft's new offering will hit store shelves some time in the next year.

Microsoft is hoping that a more powerful reiteration of their Xbox One console would be able to win back the hearts of many fans that were turned off by some of the initial features of the original version. On the other hand, Sony is hoping that releasing a power-packed version of their wildly successful PlayStation 4 console will further add to its already long list of accolades.

SRJ News reports that in less than three years, Sony has already sold over 40 million PlayStation 4 units. The added 4K capability of the Neo version of this console and has a large potential to drive the sales figures even higher. What could put people off though is its price tag, as it is currently being reported that the PlayStation 4 Neo will cost more than the original version of the console. What's not a worry for current PlayStation 4 owners looking for an upgrade is that the Neo will be backwards compatible with current games.

Microsoft has also packed as much of a punch as possible in their new console nicknamed "Project Scorpio." According to a report from Kotaku, it will be the most powerful console Microsoft has released to date and will feature support for 4K gaming as well as high fidelity virtual reality with a rumored performance speed of six teraflops. Like the Neo, Project Scorpio will also be backwards compatible with already released Xbox One games.
