Matthew McConaughey To Teach College Film Class At UT-Austin; What Will It Be Like?

Accomplished and award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is going to be a professor at the University of Texas Austin (UT-Austin) and it's not for a part in a movie. He's actually going to teach students who are interested in film production, or web, music video and commercial production.

Matthew McConaughey, who earned his Bachelor's degree in film from the same school in 1993, is going to impart what he knows about filmmaking in the class called "Advanced Producing: Script to Screen," per Variety. The actor is going to have some help teaching this class as director Gary Ross is also going to be a resource person along with Scott Rice, who is the official academic professor.

The course description listed in the school's official site denotes that the class will tackle how to source materials, develop scripts and story boards, plan a shooting schedule and work on the voice and effects (VFX). The students could also get a chance to see what really happens in major Hollywood feature, presumably with the Matthew McConaughey's influence.

The report also details that Professor McConaughey is going to give his lectures in pre-recorded videos, which students will be able to access online. But nevertheless, the 30 students that will be getting the limited slots for the class will get to see him at least one time in the semester. This is only open for upper classmen and not freshmen and sophomores at UT-Austin.

My San Antonio reports that this is not the first time Matthew McConaughey has taught a film class at the university. Last spring, he gave a 3-hour lecture in the same class, but then the students had to sign a nondisclosure. His lectures were in line with "Free State of Jones," his current movie, which ran in theaters last June.

The UT-Austin alum is also a frequent visitor to the school because he's a big fan of the football team. Classes will officially begin at the Texas university in the last week of August.
