Ezra and Olivia are the top baby names for boys and girls, respectively for the first half of 2016. This is according to baby name site Nameberry. Ezra repeats its claim on the top position for boy's baby names from last year, while Olivia took over last year's top pick for girls, Charlotte, which fell to third place.
Nameberry based its rankings on which baby names had most views out of almost 40 million visits to its pages during the first six months of the year. The top baby names in the Nameberry rankings represent those that are gaining the most attention from parents-to be and are also the ones likely to be used for babies in the future, according to Cosmopolitan.
Top Baby Names For Boys
The top five baby names for boys for the first half of 2016 are Ezra, Asher, Atticus, Declan and Oliver. Milo, Silas, Levi, Wyatt and Henry complete the top 10. Ezra, Three of the top 10 baby boy names, Ezra, Asher and Silas, are names from the Bible.
Today reported that Aryan is the "hottest boy's name for the first half of 2016" as it rose 49 places in the baby name rankings. Aryan, which is at number 697, is said to be an Indo-Iranian name meaning warrior or honorable. John, Tobias, Daniel, Xavier, and Maxwell are the other baby boy names that rose more than 40 places in the rankings.
Top Baby Names For Girls
Five of the top 10 baby girl names begin with the first letter of the alphabet. The top baby names are Olivia, Amelia, Charlotte, Ava and Isla for the first five. Arabella, Aurora, Adeline, Isabela and Mia took the last five slots in the top 10 baby girl names.
One of the risers in the rankings for girls is the name Sadie, which jumped from 98 last year to 41 this year. Elise, Astrid, Isabella, Thea all jumped more than 30 ranks in the Nameberry list.
Meanwhile, a list of unpopular baby names was released by Babycentre, according to a report from Daily Mail. For boys, some unpopular names are Bertram, Cecil, Clarence, Horace and Nigel while it was Angela, Carol, Joanne, Sheila, Elaine and Yvonne.
