Blizzard's "Overwatch" has in release terms an extremely strong start. Since its release just a few months ago, "Overwatch" has received critical and fan acclaim.
"Overwatch" currently has over 10 million players across PC, Xbox and PS4. The game also had one of the most successful beta campaigns in gaming history, securing success for "Overwatch" before its release.
Blizzard, known for excellent post-release support, does not seem willing to let a strong start for "Overwatch" ease them into complacency. Blizzard stated that all post-release additions will be free.
Just a fortnight ago Blizzard released Competitive Mode on the PC version, immediately followed by a release on consoles. Now, however, it seems that fans are being teased the next major inclusion into the game - a brand new hero - via the official "Overwatch" Twitter account.
The "Overwatch" tease takes the form an "archived" conversation between Torbjorn and Mercy on the development of a scoped prototype biotic sniper rifle that has the ability to heal soldiers on the field. However implications of the new weapon - which Mercy describes with concern - could be adapted to provide less supportive intentions.
This gives a significant hint that the new hero may in fact be what "Overwatch" fans have been suspecting for a while. The next "Overwatch" hero to make an appearance would be the sniper Sombra as reported on Parent Herald.
In numerous "Overwatch" promotional video sources (and similar to how hero McCree was leaked to the pubic before release), a female soldier wielding a sniper rifle has been spotted. Some subtle hidden clues in the game about another Overwatch member named Sombra were also present.
The "Overwatch" game has unused sound files of Reaper asking about Sombra as well as some clues in the area Dorado as reported on IGN. "Where is Sombra when you need her?" Reaper is heard asking.
Assuming that the new "Overwatch" hero is Sombra and is to be a supportive healer equipped with a sniper rifle, the clues in the tweet it wouldn't be much of a stretch to suggest the biotic sniper rifle can have an alternative fire. As Sombra this has damage dealing properties.
The new "Overwatch" hero - whoever it may be - would bring the roster up to 22. Since support class heroes in "Overwatch" are relatively few (four compared to the six or five for attack, defence and tank classes), it seems to make sense that Sombra - or this mysterious healer sniper - would be a support class.
"Overwatch" is currently available for PC, Xbox One and PS4. Who's your bet for the new "Overwatch" addition?
