Children's Bath Seats Recalled for Posing Drowning Risks

Nearly 50,000 units of a particular brand of baby bath seats have been recalled in the United States for posing drowning risks to babies.

Authorities at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Dream On Me Inc. based in South Plainfield, N.J., issued a voluntary recall of bath seats designed for infants and toddlers.

The recall notice issued Thursday, cited the product's failure to meet federal safety standards related to stability. According to the authorities, the bath seats can tip over, making babies at higher risks of drowning. The current move comes after CPSC and Dream On Me company received five complaints related to the product. Of the total complaints, a 12-month-old baby girl was reported nearly drowning while using the bath seat.

All Dream On Me bath seats with the model numbers 251, 252 and 253 have been included in the recall. The colorful baby seats, priced between $25 and $40, have been available in small retail stores and online shops of Amazon and Wayfair across the country, between July and September 2012.

"While there have been no injuries with the Bath Seats, Dream On Me is taking this action to prevent future injuries. Please stop using your Dream On Me Baby Bath Seat immediately," a statement appearing on Dream On Me Company's official website said.

Consumers can receive a free replacement of the bath tub by contacting Dream On Me at (877) 201-4317, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, during week days. Any complaints related to the recalled product can be filed directly on the commission's official website SaferProducts.gov.
