A sequel to the hit animated film, "Frozen," has been wandering around the rumor mill since Idina Menzel mentioned the possibility to The Telegraph in November 2014. However, Menzel is now taking back her statement about "Frozen 2."
Speculations of a sequel are spreading due to the animated film's success. The movie grossed $1 billion worldwide - the highest grossing animated film ever, reports RTE. In addition, Menzel's rendition of "Let It Go" has been an anthem among kids and even adults. It has also won an oscar. According to Toronto Sun, "Frozen" recieved two Academy Awards.
However, since then, Menzel has stated that she had wrongly assumed that there would be a "Frozen 2." As stated in a report by The Record, on The Times newspaper she explains, "Apparently I spoke out of turn. I just assumed that because it was so successful there'd be a sequel but Disney doesn't have sequels, so it would be a first if there was one." The Record says that Disney is keen on keeping Idina Menzel quiet about a sequel to "Frozen."
Meanwhile, there could be a stage show in the works. The famous singer states, "I think they're working on that but the Disney people keep things close to their chests." When asked if she would appear in the stage production, she responded, "Sure, I'd love to. But muscials take years and I'd have to play Elsa's mother, probably."
Even though there might not be a "Frozen 2" and the stage show might take years, "Frozen" fans still have something to look forward to this year. According to The Northwestern, the beloved main characters of "Frozen" will return in "Frozen Forever."
"Frozen Forever" will be a 7-minute short. The short film will see the return of Queen Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), Princess Ana (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), and Olaf (Josh Gad). The latest installment to "Frozen" will be released before Disney's live-action "Cinderella," which comes out in theaters on March 13, 2015.
Northwestern notes that the plot centers around Elsa planning a birthday party for Ana. Everything goes awry, however, when Elsa catches a cold on the day of the party. Jennifer Lee states, "Elsa doesn't get a cold in the usual way. She's special. Surprising things occur that wreak a little havoc." Jennifer Lee along with Chris Buck directed "Frozen." Both Lee and Buck reunite to direct "Frozen Forever."
The short film will also release a new song written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. Robert and Kristen Lopez are the husband-and-wife team who wrote "Let It Go." Northwestern warns parents that the new song is "catchy."
Josh Gad talks a little bit about "Frozen Forever," with The Northwestern. Gad says "The gang is back together. And literally it's like we never went away. "Every day we're reminded of 'Frozen' in our lives. So it feels like a continuation of a saga that has many parts still untold. It felt like coming home again after a short absence."
