One of Netflix's popularly rising series, "Marco Polo" is an adventure beyond truth. With the recent closing of the Season 2 finale, many are brushing up on what's to come for a probable third season sometime soon.
The fictional historical drama "Marco Polo" gives Netflix viewers a taste of what went on between the Mongolian emperor Kublai Khan, explorer Marco Polo plus their enemies and allies in an imaginative tale of power, family, and betrayal. As Kaidu and Kublai Khan try to wrestle with maintaining the political balance within the Khan, Kublai's finance minister Ahmad Fanakati has been brewing an unlikely plan, according to Screen Rant.
Here's a brief overview of 'Marco Polo': Season 2 Episode 10: (May contain spoilers, beware..)
While quietly seeking alliances (even with Kublai's son Kaidu) and plotting to overthrow the great Khan, it eventually failed when Ahmad was found hanged at the entryway of the Karakorum. So, Ahmad had a long history of hatred towards Kublai because of what the Mongols had done to him and his family, even after he was taken in by Kublai and the Empress Chabi. Ahmad may have had a chance for revenge in "Marco Polo"'s Season 2 finale, "The Fellowship", but was unable to reveal his hatred for Kublai and was considered a weak point by critics for the season 2 episode.
Anyway, one point in the "Marco Polo": Season 2 finale episode is the loyalty shown by Marco, Byamba, and Jingim. All three have remained by Kublai Khan towards the end, even if Empress Chabi had given Marco a chance to go home to Italy. The Empress had chanced upon Marco wanting to see the Princess Kokachin and the former asserted it was for the best to let the Princess be.
Another facet in the "Marco Polo": Season 2 finale, Khutulun had also shown her courage not to back down and find ways to retain power, saying all the backstabbing and cunning would bring the Mongol Empire to decay. And not at the hands of its enemies.
Will Prester John overthrow The Khan in 'Marco Polo' Season 3?
Remember the opening scene in the "Marco Polo": Season 2 finale? Nayan was seen wandering the desert and was saved by a mysterious figure carrying what looked like a Holy Cross, in The Wrap.
In narrative accounts by "Marco Polo," he had stated that Prester John was a Christian ruler who was killed by Genghis Khan after John refused Genghis' intent to wed one of his daughters. Although Prester John could have lived before Marco was born, in the Netflix series John is being introduced as someone with mystical powers. Could Prester John's inclusion be marked as a Season 3 opening? We'll find out soon enough.
