The 2015 Mobile World Congress will be taking place on March 2-5 in Barcelona, Spain. Here's what you can expect from the much awaited convention:
Phones
Tech Radar reports that there will a variety of phones showcased at MWC.
However, most sites have confirmed that LG and Sony will not be releasing their flagship phones in Barcelona.
Both companies will still be at the 2015 MWC, though. LG is expected to release mid-range phones, reports Heavy. Specifically, the South Korean tech giant will release Magna, Joy, Spirit, and Leon -- all these phones will be available in LTE and 3G models.
Sony, on the other hand, is expected to release an upgrade for the 10.1- inch Xperia Z2 Tab. The company will also be releasing a number of mid-range handsets.
Fortunately, Samsung has confirmed that it will be releasing the Galaxy S6 at this year's MWC. There is also talk that Samsung will also release the Galaxy S6 Edge. Other than the GS6, it is expected that the HTC One M9, otherwise known as the HTC Hima, will also be released.
Meanwhile, Tech Radar reports that Nokia's spot will be taken over by Microsoft this year. The company is expected to showcase Lumia and Windows phones. The site believes that no new hardware will be released, but the company will share information on the mobile Windows 10.
Smartwatches
Silicon Angle reports on the smartwatches that will appear in Barcelona.
LG has announced that its smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane, will appear at the MWC. The watch runs on 512MB of DDR2 RAM and has 4GB of internal storage.
HTC will also be releasing a smartwatch of its own, named the HTC Petra. It has Bluetooth and GPS support with a three-day battery.
Smartwatch Samsung Orbis will also be competing for attention in Barcelona. The smartwatch will be running on Samsung's very own Tizen OS.
Surprisingly, Huawei will also be introducing a smartwatch for the first time. There is not much information about the device. However, it is speculated that it will be a standalone device.
Other Technology
Heavy believes that there will be a wider range of connected cars at this year's MWC. Connected cars are vehicles which can connect to each other and the Internet. CNBC reports that connected cars are a growing market, which is expected to be worth billions by 2020.
There is also news of Nokia demonstrating 5G tech in Spain, reports Heavy. Chief scientist, Xiang Jiying of ZTE explains the monumental improvement 5G tech can bring to phones during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Jiying states, "5G is expected to have 1,000 times the capacity of 4G. With 4G, you can't really stream games in real time on your handsets, but it will be possible with 5G..."
