Fans of the KD line are not the only ones excited for the shoe to come out, but Kevin Durant is as well. According to Sneaker Bar Detroit, when a sneaker reporter asked Durant about the KD 7, he diverted the conversation towards the yet to be announced KD 8.
The Thunder superstar answered, "Honestly you should be wondering about the KD8 because that's going to change the game of sneakers. Its low top like the KD7 and has a sock like material that goes all the way up the leg. The KD8 should be dropping in July of 2015 around 4th of July time. Nike Hasn't sent me the images yet I'm still waiting on them."
Take note that this interview occurred around the end of 2014, so the site concludes that he has already seen the shoe by now. It does seem though that he was so excited that he started promoting the shoe early.
In fact, just recently Durant posted a picture on Instagram of the supposed KD8, states Bleacher Report. He added a comment on the post saying, "Can't wait for the 8s to drop!!" However, after close inspection, the shoe in the picture is actually an orthopedic one.
Sole Collector adds that the joke is a reminder of the Thunder player's current state of health. His struggle began when he had to repair a Jones fracture in his foot last October. Since then, he has only worn the KD 7's on court once and that was just for one quarter of the game, the site noted.
According to Bleacher Report, the Thunder announced that Durant will be undergoing surgery on his right foot to reduce some discomfort he had been feeling. Si.com reports that the "irritation" might be from a previous surgery.
So, even if the "leaked" photos were a joke, at least Thunder fans know that Kevin Durant is doing well. He certainly does seem to have his sense of humor still intact, at least.
The KD7 still have a few colorways to release in the next couple of months, but talk of the KD8 have already been spreading, reports Sneaker Bar Detroit.
The sneaker will be the eighth signature Nike Basketball shoe of Kevin Durant. It will be officially unveiled either by June or early July of this year, according to Sneaker News.
