Child Negligence in Indiana: Abandoned Baby Found Her Guardian Angel In 9-Year-Old Rescuer

This abandoned baby met her guardian angel. After being deserted by her parents, a nine-year-old heroine found her in Indiana and took her safely in her arms.

New York Daily News reports that Elysia Laub was playing in her family house's backyard at Lowell, Indiana when she found the newborn baby's legs kicking in the grass. At first, the nine-year-old thought that she saw a pig but when she realized it was a living person, Elysia knew that the baby needed help.

She immediately ran to her mother who told her to call 911. When the police came, they took the baby to St. Anthony's Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Upon discovery of the baby, the police saw that her placenta and umbilical cord was still attached. The police suspected that she was abandoned just hours after she was born (via New York Daily News).

According to County Sheriff John Buncich, the baby could have died if Elysia did not find her just in time. The police believed that the baby was left in the backyard the night before and unfortunately, the next day was scorching hot with temperatures reaching up to 90 degrees. The police were the ones who named Elysia as the guardian angel of the newborn baby (via New York Daily News).

According to U.S. National Library of Medicine, there are abandoned baby laws in place wherein parents are allowed to leave their babies in order for them to have safer and more stable lives. There is a designated safe location where parents can anonymously abandon the children at a certain age.

As per Fusion, Indiana was the first state to allow parents to legally abandon their babies. Watch the video below to learn more about it. Sound off your thoughts in the Comments section below and follow Parent Herald for more news and updates.
