After a long road to development, "American Gods" is finally coming to the small screen via Starz in 2017. The show is based on Neil Gaiman's best-selling and critically-acclaimed novel and the particulars of the series will be unveiled at the coming Comic Con event. 'American Gods' Cast And Crew: Who Is Behind The Show?

"American Gods" was initially planned for airing on HBO, but after years and years of trying to come up with a cohesive show, the network gave up on it. Starz swooped the project from HBO and enlisted Neil Gaiman, the novel's author, as executive producer.

Per Observer, Gaiman reads through he scripts and provides notes. He also helps out the writers if they are stuck in the story's progress. But Starz also enlisted Bryan Fuller to serve as the showrunner. His credits include "Hannibal" and "Pushing Daisies." He is also doing the "Star Trek" reboot for 2017.

"American Gods" stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday. Also in the cast are Gillian Anderson, Cloris Leachman, Orlando Jones, Jonathan Tucker, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber and Peter Stormare.

'American Gods' Plot: What Is This About?

The fantastic story of "American Gods" is about an ex-convict, Shadow Moon (Whittle), who becomes the bodyguard of a con artist, Mr. Wednesday (McShane). This con man is actually Odin, the Norse god, and he travels across America with Shadow Moon to fight against the new world's American gods --- money, technology and media, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Each episode of "American Gods" is expected to deliver a visual feast shot from many landmarks in America. Filming has already started this summer, with the show debuting in early 2017 on Starz.
