Overweight People Shorten Their Life Span By Ten Years Compared To People With a Healthy Life Style

A lot of things can happen in ten years. You can have a trip to ten countries or have your business boom into some million dollar profit and so forth. But what it ten years is taken from you because of Obesity? A study in France says that it is possible to cut your lifespan by ten years because of being overweight.

A study published in the US National Library of Medicine National Institute of Health says that weight or the situation of BMI can determine how long a person can live. The study was done by reckoning with the "Need to Reconcile Caloric Restriction" against the "Longevity with Body Mass Index versus Mortality Data". From the data gathered from studying mices and monkeys, it turned out that the lean and properly maintained weight have helped the samples live longer. For humans, as an example set in the study, the basketball players who weigh 80 kilograms or more have a life span of 61 years. In contrast, those who weigh 10 kilograms less have a life span of 66 years.

Yahoo News reports that being overweight or obese can lead to premature death, as per the lead author of the study in the University of Cambridge, Emanuele Di Angelantonio. Some chronic illnesses are heightened because of too much weight gain as per Di Angelantonio. These include coronary heart disease, respiratory disease, hypertension, stroke, and cancer.

The University of Oxford also had a study that affirms that the study of Di Angelantonio's team. Dr Gary Whitlock of Oxford University Epidemiologist says that, ''Excess weight shortens human lifespan. In countries like Britain and America, weighing a third more than the optimum shortens lifespan by about 3 years. For most people, a third more than the optimum means carrying 20 to 30 kilograms [50 to 60 pounds, or 4 stone] of excess weight. If you are becoming overweight or obese, avoiding further weight gain could well add years to your life.''

It is a great challenge to keep yourself in shape and have a maintained weight. With all the foods and temptations to get lazy and have a sedentary lifestyle, it is expected that the obesity rate will soar higher in the next years. But you do not have to go with the flow. Keep yourself lean and develop a good eating habit. Do not deprive yourself to live longer for ten more years.
