Yale Former Dishwasher Wants His Job Back After Breaking One Of The University's 'Racist' Glass Windows

An interesting turn of events is happening in Yale University's recent racism-related fiasco. After admitting his mistake and resigning from his post himself, the former dishwasher at the Ivy League is asking for his job back.

According to ABC News, Corey Menafee has worked for eight years at Yale University as a dishwasher. He was at Calhoun College when he saw a window depicting a black slave that he found offensive. Without thinking, he used a broomstick to break the glass, reaching a female passerby in the street who fortunately was uninjured (via Parent Herald).

As per the lawyer of the former dishwasher, Menafee does not have any bad blood against Yale University. After knowing that Yale was only asking for restitution for the window he broke, he is now asking the administration for reemployment in order to support his family (ABC News).

Yale University officials would meet with Menafee for the possible work reunion. It can be remembered that the administration withdrew criminal charges against the dishwasher and accepted his resignation.

ABC News notes that Calhoun College has been under headlines when students called for the college's name change. Calhoun is a staunch supporter of slavery. Despite of the complaints, the Yale administration declined to favor the request because it believed that the university's history should not be hidden, as per Daily Mail.

According to Daily Mail, there are other stained glass windows in Yale University that were found to be racist. During the 90s, there was one panel at the Sterling Memorial Library entitled, "Negro with a watermelon." It was removed after students complained about its racist symbolism.

There was also another panel at the library that quotes 'Heathen Chinee,' a poem with racist undertones. Another stained glass in Calhoun College was also removed in 1992 that depicted a shackled slave kneeling before Calhoun.
