Baby Jogger's City Versa Stroller Recalled, Fall Hazard Cited

A particular brand of baby strollers has been recalled in the United States for posing fall hazard to children.

Authorities at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled nearly 8,400 units of "City Versa" stroller, manufactured by Baby Jogger LLC, based in Richmond, Va. on Wednesday. Health Canada has recalled about 2,200 units of the stroller.

According to the authorities, the locking system of the stroller often fails to lock properly, increasing risks of the child falling down from the stroller. The company has received six complaints related to the stroller.

All Baby Jogger City Versa model strollers manufactured between May 15 and Aug. 20, 2012 have been affected by the current recall.

The recalled stroller comes in four different colors of black, silver, red and green and had been available at buybuy Baby and juvenile product stores across the U.S. and online stores of buybuybaby and albeebaby between July and October 2012.

It's pretty easy to identify the recalled models, as "Baby Jogger" and "City Versa" is written on it and date of manufacture can be found on the stroller's black plastic side hinge.

The Commission urged consumers to stop using the recalled product and to approach the company for a free replacement of the stroller frame.

"Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product," a statement appearing on the official website of CPSC said.
