Becoming a mother is probably the best thing that can happen to a woman, and singer Alicia Keys wholeheartedly seconds this thought. The "Fallin" singer, who gave birth to son Egypt Dauod two years ago, tells Scholastic Parent & Child's December/January issue that motherhood has made her a better person.
"Being a parent has made me more open, more connected to myself, more happy, and more creative," a report by People quoted her telling the magazine. "I'm more discerning in what I do and how I do it. It's just made me a better person all the way around."
Keys also reveals that it didn't take her much time to get used to the idea of being a mother after giving birth to her son with husband Swizz Beatz.
"What's been surprisingly easy is just how natural parenthood feels," the 31-year-old singer said. "I feel great about how easily I've fallen into the role. I love it!"
The Grammy award-winning songstress also admits that it hasn't always been easy being a mother and the hardest part is being away from her son at times and "trying to find that magical balance for everything, which I kind of expected."
Keys, who is currently the ambassador of "Keep a Child Alive", said she tries to spend as much time as she can with her family amid promoting her recent album "Girls on Fire".
"We love to go to art galleries and to the park," she said. "We love to do painting days and to visit our family - and we also love to run around our house and just go nuts!"
Keys also talks to the magazine about Egypt's favorite books, revealing her 2-year-old son is fascinated by trucks and doesn't mind any book that has "trucks" in them.
"He can look at a picture of trucks and name every kind that there is - even an excavator," said the proud mother.
