Kickass Torrents was shut down after the feds arrested the alleged owner of the site. A day after it was shut down, however, it is now up and running with a mirror website.
Torrent Freak released a report which shook the world of movie lovers. It was revealed that the owner of Kickass Torrents was tracked by the feds and was arrested. The site was then closed down, and movie lovers saddened by the news.
According to the website, the 30-year-old owner of the largest torrent site, Artem Vaulin who was originally from Ukraine, was arrested in Poland on July 20. Along with his capture is the seizure of multiple Kickass Torrents domain names, which disabled downloading movies off the site.
"Vault is charged with running today's most visited illegal file-sharing website, responsible for unlawfully distributing well over $1 billion of copyrighted materials," said Assistant Attorney General Caldwell said. "In an effort to evade law enforcement, Vaulin allegedly relied on servers located in countries around the world and moved his domains due to repeated seizures and civil lawsuits. His arrest in Poland, however, demonstrates again that cybercriminals can run, but they cannot hide from justice."
It was then mentioned that Vaulin was charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and two counts of criminal copyright infringement. The criminal complaint was filed in the US District Court in Chicago.
"Records provided by Apple showed that tirm@me.com conducted an iTunes transaction using IP Address 109.86.226.203 on or about July 31, 2015. The same IP Address was used on the same day to login into the KAT Facebook," the complaint published in Justice News stated.
Though Vaulin was already arrested, reports emerged that a Kickass Torrents mirror site emerged which delighted most movie lovers. Techno Buffalo mentioned that there are two mirror sites, one of which is the isoHunt which allows users to download most 2015 films, but still lacks features such as the forum and support.
A secondary KAT site is known as KAT.am which is said to provide a better version of isoHunt. It is said to include all media files as the creators mentioned that they would soon release a mobile version.
