Teen Wolf Season 6 Updates: Dylan O’ Brien Caused Cancellation?

Teen Wolf Season 6 has been confirmed to be the last season for the uber-popular paranormal/supernatural series. This follows a deviation from the show's usual airing schedule after star Dylan O' Brien suffered a fatal injury in filming a movie. Does this mean that O' Brien's accident caused the cancellation of Teen Wolf?

It could have certainly contributed to the decision but the bigger reason could have been the dramatic decrease in the show's ratings during the second half of Season 5. The season finale, for example, only got 0.8 million live viewers. That is almost a 50 percent drop from the 1.54 million that tuned in the fourth season finale.

It can be recalled that O' Brien suffered from multiple injuries after a stunt scene in the shooting of Maze Runner: The Death Cure. The accident also caused the movie's release to be pushed back to January 2018 to give him time to recover.

According to Entertainment Weekly, during a Teen Wolf Season 6 panel at the San Diego Comic Convention, producer Jeff Davis announced the news to the disappointment of Teen Wolf fans and fantasy fiction lovers.

"I know we're sad about it and it's bittersweet but we're so happy to be able to come to Comic-Con and share it with you guys," Davis said before hugging star Tyler Posey, who portrays high school student Scott McCall in the show. Earlier this month, it has also been verified that Cody Christian will appear in the new Teen Wolf season.

To open with Teen Wolf Season 6 on MTV is Sweet/Vicious, a superhero show about a very timely topic: sexual assault in college campuses, Variety reports. Taylor Dearden and Eliza Bennett will lead the show as wannabe vigilantes.

Teen Wolf Season 6 will have its premiere episode in November with the last episode airing in the first half of 2017. The series finale will also serve as the series' 100th episode.
