'Star Trek' TV Reboot Teaser & Plot Details: New Name, New Ship Revealed! How 2017 Show Will Be Different

The upcoming TV reboot of "Star Trek" is going to be different from all other "Star Trek" shows that have aired for the last 50 years. Showrunner Bryan Fuller unveiled that the series will carry a new name and a new ship. A new teaser was also released during a fan panel at the recent Comic Con in San Diego.

'Star Trek' TV Reboot: New Name, New Ship

The series debuting in 2017 will be called "Star Trek: Discovery." It's also the name of the show's new spaceship, the USS Discovery, which will replace the famous USS Enterprise that has been iconic for the "Star Trek" franchise.

"I couldn't think of a more Star Trek-themed name for a ship than Discovery," said Fuller via Star Trek. The ship is the main feature to the newly released teaser for "Star Trek: Discovery," which you can watch in the video below.

'Star Trek: Discovery' Plot Details

Fuller also revealed that "Star Trek: Discovery" will be different from other "Star Trek" TV series because the story's development will be treated like a novel. Previous shows had been episodic, which means that the plot was wrapped up with each episode, but "Star Trek: Discovery" will be running as one long story for the whole season.

Fuller also confirmed that "Star Trek: Discovery" is going to happen in the prime timeline, per Independent. The film versions under J.J. Abrams carry a different timeline and universe.

'Star Trek' TV Reboot Will Also Stream On Netflix

"Star Trek" is expected to debut in January 2017 on CBS All Access, the streaming service of CBS network online. This means U.S. residents can watch "Star Trek: Discovery" if they subscribe to CBS All Access at $5.99 a month. They can also watch other shows that have aired and are still airing on the network via the website.

However, outside the United States, "Star Trek: Discovery" will run on all territories serviced by Netflix. Per arrangement with CBS Studios, the show's episodes will be available within 24 hours after it has been released on CBS All Access, according to the Netflix press release.
