Comic-Con 2016 unveiled some teasers about what fans should expect from the twelfth season of "Supernatural." Season 11 wrapped up with Dean (Jensen Ackles) getting his dead mother Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith) back.
"Supernatural's" Sam (Jared Padalecki), meanwhile, has a more dire fate. The younger Winchester was shot by Toni (Elizabeth Blackmore), a member of the Men of Letters.
During "Supernatural" Comic-Con panel on Sunday, Padalecki said that his character is very much alive in Season 12, Entertainment Weekly reported. The actor also revealed that the CW series will explore the Men of Letters storyline more and the group's motivations and plans.
Mary's Resurrection A Weakness Of Dean And Sam?
Ackles, meanwhile, said that Mary's resurrection will present "a dynamic" that "Supernatural" hasn't had yet since it premiered in 2005. Given that Mary died when Sam was just a baby and Dean was a little boy -- making their relationship basically "nonexistent" -- Ackles said it will be "interesting" how the three will "bridge that massive gap."
"It also brings into question how is she going to plug herself into their lives? Is that going to leave the brothers vulnerable?" the "Supernatural" actor noted, as quoted by EW. When it comes to Dean and Sam, we know that the easiest way to get one of them is to hurt or trap the other. The brothers' enemies might use Mary, who was a hunter when she was younger, as vengeance.
Lucifer's New Vessel; 'Supernatural' Season 12 Back To Basic Horror Stories
Misha Collins, who portrays Castiel, said his character has similarities with Mary in the sense that they're both "outsiders." As for Castiel's story arc in the upcoming season, Collins said the angel will revert to the angel's Season 4 iteration. Season 12 Castiel will be "angry" and in "a fighting spirit" now that he's chasing Lucifer, who's currently on the run after escaping hell.
Crowley (Mark Sheppard) will seek revenge on Lucifer, Variety reported. Crowley's family -- his mother Rowena (Ruth Connell) and long-lost son Gavin -- will also be explored in "Supernatural" Season 12.
Lucifer will be trying new vessels with his newfound freedom. Executive producer Bob Singer said Lucifer's first vessel is a rock star named Vince Vicente, to be portrayed by real-life rocker and "Jessie's Girl" singer Rick Springfield.
If you miss the old "Supernatural," then you're in for a treat. Singer revealed that the show will not attempt to top the God arc in the upcoming episodes. Season 12 will feature "smaller stories" and "good old-fashioned horror stories," much like the show's earlier seasons.
"Supernatural" Season 12 airs on Thursday, October 13 at 9 PM on The CW.
