In the recently concluded San Diego Comic Con 2016, the cast and crew shared some exciting details about the upcoming season, including what Mary's return means for the Winchester brothers.

"Supernatural" Season 12 spoilers tease that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will be having a hard time adjusting to the fact that their mother, Mary (Samantha Smith) has returned. In an interview with Zap2It, the cast and crew shared some details about what fans and viewers can expect in the upcoming season.
"There's a lot of ass-kickery, and there's a lot of self-introspection," said Samantha Smith, who further teased that Mary will return to her hunter roots. "There's a lot different in 33 years."
Jensen Ackles shared that it would take some time for Sam and Dean to build a relationship with Mary since they have been apart for quite a long time. Aside from this, Misha Collins teased that in "Supernatural" Season 12, Castiel and Mary will be spending a lot of time together.
"Supernatural" Season 12 cast news from Variety also revealed that Rick Springfield was recently tapped to play the role of Lucifer. As seen in the previous season of The CW series, Lucifer took possession of Castiel's body.
This time, Lucifer will be taking possession of a body of a "rock star who's a little bit on the down side who's trying to come back." In "Supernatural" Season 12, Lucifer is expected to be "the new Satan" and fans can expect to see him go all out against the Winchester brothers next season.
