Medical Marijuana News: Children With Epilepsy In Victoria Can Access Medical Marijuana by 2017

Medical marijuana legalization has been an ongoing debate among the pro and anti-legalization sectors. As of the latest update, patients from Victoria, Australia can now access medical marijuana.

Health Memory confirmed the medical marijuana legalization in Victoria, Australia, which is said to be the first state in Australia to legalize medical marijuana. Jill Hennessy, Victoria's Health Minister mentioned that the state's medical marijuana bill managed to make it as the Parliament had it approved.

Hennessy then added that the medical marijuana legalization paved the way for younger patients suffering from epilepsy. Children were prioritized by the bill, thus child epilepsy patients would be able to have access by 2017.

"We're starting with these children with severe epilepsy, whose lives have been shown to improve so significantly because we know these children often don't make it until adulthood," Hennessy said. "We want to improve the quality of their life."

Jill Hennessy then added that by having medical marijuana legalized, it would make health care provision easier for parents. She then added that by having medical marijuana accessible, parents would no longer have to struggle in making a decision if they are to choose between doing what's best for their child, or if they'd abide the law.

"I just think that in this day and age, it's unfair and unacceptable to ask a parent to make a decision between obeying the law and acting in the best interests of their child," Hennessey added. "Those parents will no longer have that dilemma."

Medical marijuana does pave the way in providing safe and quality health care medications. Parent Herald previously reported that after medical marijuana was legalized, the sales on painkillers and antidepressants significantly declined.

Several studies have proved that medical marijuana is safe for consumption, especially with children as it doesn't have severe side effects. There are pro's and con's to be considered in having marijuana legalized. Are for medical marijuana legalization? Or are you against it?
