AMD's Koduri Reveals New 3D GPU With 1TB Storage

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has just announced its newest lineup of GPU support devices, including one that could accommodate up to 1TB of storage called the Radeon Pro SSG. Also, a series of WX cards were also revealed during the same announcement.

This gives way to the future focus of AMD as one of the leading innovators for GPUs, paving the way for Radeon Pro SSG as its latest top-of-the-line graphics card, ExtremeTech reported. The GPU would have the capacity to add up to a terrabyte of handy storage (for now), as it being connected to a PEX8747 bridge chip, says Raja Koduri.

As a way to address the common issue on existing GPU memory limit, AMD says the Radeon Pro SSG's integrated M.2 slots allow for more accessible PCI Express storage. Although AMD only showed a prototype of the Radeon Pro SSG, the company stated that it didn't wish to dwell on the GPU's performance. Aside from retiring AMD's 32GB RAM Radeon FirePro W9100, the company also introduced new workstation experience cards labeled the W7100, W5100, and W4100.

Koduri also added that the Radeon Pro SSG is built to do high-speed processing for applications needing huge datasets, as well as allow use of data persistence of non-volatile memory. Simply means further advancement in terms of computing and graphics applications.

With AMD's noted history of advanced memory technology breakthroughs, the Radeon Pro SSG would be able to comply or even exceed expectations for results showing finer resolution. AMD's Radeon Pro technology is considerably a greater solution for VR content creation, medical imaging, existential computing, to name a few.

Coding for the Radeon Pro SSG is already open to developers and can be purchased for close to $10K, while full availability of the new tech would be by 2017. As AMD consistently upholds: the new Radeon Pro SSG is about "the art of the impossible".
