A web-based software program is improving ADHD treatment in children, according to a new study published in Pediatrics. The program was developed by researchers from the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in Ohio.
"Our data show the software not only helped improve the quality of medication care received by children treated at community based pediatric practices, but it also improved treatment outcomes for these children," said Jeffery Epstein, PhD, the study's principal investigator, as per EurekAlert. Epstein is the director of the Center for ADHD at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Software Compiles Children's ADHD Symptoms
News-Medical.net reported that the American Academy of Pediatrics selected the ADHD care quality improvement (QI) software to be used in pediatric ADHD practices participating in a five-state QI learning collaborative that aims to improve how children with ADHD are cared for. The software reportedly helps in the collection, scoring and interpretation of ADHD symptoms.
After the software analyzes the data, doctors treating children with ADHD reportedly get text and graphs that show the children's response to the medication given to them. This reveals if the children's ADHD symptoms are showing improvement with medication. In a trial, children with ADHD at pediatric practices using the software had greater symptom reduction than those not using the software.
Another Software For Children's Health
In India, Your Story reported the development of a software monitoring of health issues in children. It talked of KidNurture, "a software framework for ensuring timely detection and early intervention in child health issues." KidNurture, which is reportedly free, has different versions for parents, medical professionals and agencies dealing with children's healthcare and combines different pediatric screening tools in software form.
"As child growth and developmental issues (delays, behavioural issues, autism, ADHD, and [learning disabilities]) as well as other health issues require constant monitoring and screening, we felt a strong need for some helping tools which can work towards simplifying the process," said Anurag Sharma, as quoted. Sharma, a father of a child with autism, is the CEO and Founder of Kid Nurture.
