'American Crime Story' News Update: Netflix To Stream 'The People v. OJ Simpson' Under New Global Deal With 20th Century Fox?

Netflix will soon be able to stream "American Crime Story: The People V OJ Simpson" globally as part of the service's new deal with 20th Century Fox. A hit series on FX, "American Crime Story" Season 1 is a 10-episode run called "The People V OJ Simpson," with stars as John Travolta, Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The new Netflix offering is a fresh take on the OJ Simpson murder trial, which hit America in the mid '90s. Rather than a focus on former football star OJ Simpson, "American Crime Story" Season 1 brings public attention to the murder victims Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman as well as their families.

"The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" also brings the spotlight on the prosecution and defense teams in charge of the case. "American Crime Story" Season 1 was buzzed to have created such impact that those who cheered at the OJ Simpson acquittal (including star Cuba Gooding Jr) were forced to reassess their stance, as Parent Herald reports.

"We're excited to evolve our relationship with FOX and to bring their lauded content to our members around the world," Netflix Vice President of Global Television Sean Carey stated. "Given the popularity of the first season of 'American Crime Story,' we are thrilled to offer this acclaimed drama series to our members."

"The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" comes to Netflix with 22 Emmy award nominations. Carter Matt, however, points out that "American Crime Story" may actually bring risks to Netflix.

Given that "American Crime Story" is anthological, the different seasons of the new Netflix series may have varying strengths of viewership pull. While "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" rendered exceptional performance in the ratings, Season 2 (which will dwell on crimes committed in relation to Hurricane Katrina) is expected to bring Netflix a different set of ratings.

Netflix will begin streaming "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" by 2017. Do you think Season 2 of "American Crime Story" could pull in as strong a viewership as "The People V OJ Simpson?"
